Day 5 & 6

Days 5 and 6

Blessed are the flexible for they shall not break…

In the morning before we headed out Pastor Matt began with a time of prayer and devotions. Most of the group was not feeling well, and we were challenged to stretch our faith and believe that the Lord would meet all of our needs including healing the sick. After a morning of intense prayer, laying on of hands and anointing with oil, we headed out in faith.  By the end of the day, most of us were better, by the morning of day 6, we were all much better again.

Life on the field can be full of obstacles, opportunities, changes and additions.

Day 5…

Yes, the women painted a lot on day four, but by the time they got back the next day, the remainder of the paint (which was needed to finish the outside of the second house) had been used  by the family to paint the inside of the first one.  The family really enjoyed painting, it was evident on their faces… and their hands, and their arms, and in their hair, and on their clothes, and on the floor, and on the ceiling, and on and on and on.  We needed more paint.  We got more paint.  They now have the prettiest “pepto” pink homes in the western hemisphere, both inside and outside.

We had planned on rebuilding two kitchens, that grew to three. We had planned to replace a toilet, “bano”, not only are we replacing one toilet, we are adding two more, complete with bathrooms (not as we know them), and added a shower.  Today (day 6) we connected the kitchen sink “pilla” of one home to the community drainage system.  Until now, it has had no connection at all, but ran right out onto the ground.  We are also giving them a toilet, their first.

Yesterday, the footers went in.  Today the walls went up, and tomorrow, with Gods help, the roofs will go back on.  These wonderful families have been three days with their lives in total turmoil, but we hear over and over from them how God has blessed them through us. Three days ago, two truck-loads of strangers charged into their quiet world and tore it apart, tomorrow, when we say “adios” for the last time, we will leave as close friends who have grown to love, and care for each other.  Gods love transcends language and culture, and as different as we all are, we really are “brothers and sisters in the Lord”.  Amen.
